Veni Sancte Spiritus is a mainstay song in the Taize community. Frequently, when one hears Taize style music this song is one of the first ones heard.
John and I decided to make the music reflect the message of the lyrics. Fr. Thomas Keating starts out the song with a passage from the 2nd Chapter of Acts. The song then has 2-3 minutes of quiet reflective music meant for Lectio. After that the beautiful voice of Rebecca Gale starts singing the cantor part and then shortly later the choir starts singing the chant.
This song is over 10 minutes long and the music goes between instrumental and vocal sections with the choir singing the chant the whole time. About 6 minutes in, John and I decided to musically represent the coming of the Holy Spirit and we used an organ sound from the Cathedral in Notre Dame.
I hope this piece brings you the peace and joy it brought John and I when we were doing it.
